In the 1980's African representation at the world cup was growing as Algeria, Morocco and Cameroon attended the FIFA World cup in the decade. Algeria suprised the world in the 1986 World cup by defeating Germany and Chile in their group, howver they were blindsided by corruption in the Disgrace of Gijon event.
